   Pros

   - Really smart engineers and production people, with a lot of empathy. - Incredible Work Life Residual, actually flexible schedule depending on the team - The cadre mission of the visitor (producing dandy, informative, important journalism) can be very motivating. Not everything nosotros publish resonates this mode, but the work that does feels good to be a role of. - For the virtually part, I've felt pretty shielded from role bureaucracy/politics in my day-to-day (though I am aware it exists in some parts of the company)

   Cons

   - Upper Direction ofttimes comes off as very disconnected, disorganized, and even antagonistic at times. - They don't pay every bit much as many other tech companies of like size, which makes memory difficult and hiring to replace people very deadening. The company insisted it planned to address that discrepancy--fifty-fifty at some indicate sending emails virtually pay raises across the lath--but it never happened. Instead, they offered slightly larger RSU grants than normal to senior engineers and above only (however below the rate of peer tech companies they claimed they were comparison their compensation to)

   Overall- visitor tries to support employees through initiatives such as actress days off for pandemic, meeting free Fridays and compensates fairly. The environment is dynamic and fast paced which can be exciting. I had a slap-up squad to work with as well.

   Great benefits, long parental leave, remote friendly for engineers, exciting to create systems and build products that support journalists and enable engineers to do their all-time work, beautiful office in the center of time foursquare, genuinely some of the nicest and smartest people I've ever worked with, gratis access to all NYTimes products as an employee, on the cut edge of need tech, and exciting to piece of work at the price of breaking news or important news cycles. Open to internal chore shifts and opportunities.

   Cons

   Even though piece of work has to sometimes motion at the fast pace of news, it can be painfully dull to get other important piece of work to exist prioritized such as internal DEI efforts or spider web accessibility, compliance, etc. Despite the pandemic changing the way the globe works, The New York Times is non a remote first visitor so many roles on the business, product, and tech side are non remote friendly. Career advancement and promotion is non a clear and straightforward procedure.

   The people are highly dedicated and intelligent. There is a great deal of mutual respect in the team and some highest level of consideration I have been afforded as an engineer. People from a huge assortment of backgrounds makes piece of work always interesting.

   Cons

   Some networking skills are needed, especially under remote work. It's not the kind of trumpet bravado needed at artistic agencies, you just need to attain out to people from time to time.

   All the engineers are super kind and want to be very helpful. Everyone will chip in and lend a hand. For engineering, work/life balance is great.

   Cons

   Anybody puts out very nice messages full of thanks and how everyone is a team and people should take it easy, only then gets very intense about "paying for performance". Information technology feels passive aggressive. Way too many meetings because everyone is given veto power over everything.
