Notes on making healthy strawberry scones:
- I employ white wheat flour in my baking, simply you can substitute whole wheat flour or all-purpose flour if you prefer.
- I use skim milk but you could certainly substitute another milk.
- It helps to die the strawberries pretty small then that y'all go a more fifty-fifty distribution throughout the batter.
- Refrigerating the dough helps to prevent the scones from spreading out as much equally they bake, then they retain their triangle shape. Y'all can certainly skip this pace if you aren't worried so much nigh the manner they look.
- The mini chocolate chips are optional but a fun add-in!

Depending on how very salubrious y'all want to make these, I've also got a few ideas for toppings. Cause y'all know me and toppings. 😉😍
Topping ideas for strawberry scones:
1. A cream cheese glaze. This might be my favorite because strawberries + cream is such a good combo. My cream cheese glaze is naturally sweetened and uses no butter so it's still a lightened up choice. I included the recipe in the notes section of the recipe card below.
2. A lemon glaze. This is a traditional powdered carbohydrate type of glaze to drizzle over the tops of these. Feels very fresh and calorie-free. I included the recipe in the notes of the recipe carte below.
3. Drizzle some chocolate on top! Y'all can either melt some chocolate chips in the microwave and drizzle it over the top of each scone or use a shop-bought or homemade chocolate sauce.
4. Finally, if you lot want to keep information technology simple merely add together a piddling actress sweet, you tin can sprinkle some granulated sugar on top of the scones before they bake. A coarse dark-brown saccharide is specially succulent but any kind will do.

Notes
I utilize white wheat flour in my baking, but yous can substitute whole wheat flour or all-purpose flour if you prefer.
I use skim milk but you could certainly substitute another milk.
For a cream cheese glaze: Combine iv oz. reduced fat foam cheese (softened) with 2 tablespoons plain non-fat Greek yogurt, ii tablespoons maple syrup and ane/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Stir well to combine, adding up to an extra tablespoon of maple syrup equally needed for consistency and sweet. Drizzle over baked scones.
For a lemon glaze: Combine iii/4 cup of powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of skim milk in a small bowl, stirring well to combine. Add extra splashes of milk as needed to get it to the right consistency and so drizzle over the scones. (You can add the zest of the lemon here too for extra flavor.)
Another option for a topping, instead of the foam cheese or lemon glaze, would be a drizzle of chocolate. You tin either cook some chocolate in the microwave or use a homemade or shop-bought chocolate sauce.
Or if you don't desire to tiptop these with a coat, but you do desire to add a picayune extra sweetness, yous tin can sprinkle the tops of the scones with a bit of carbohydrate before baking - about a tablespoon or so full. I prefer a coarse brown sugar, but any kind will do.
